Unveiling Timothy Oulton’s 2018 Collection – Cultivated By Hand
It’s arrived! The Timothy Oulton 2018 Collection has launched, showcasing a unique range of daring designs to get the heart racing. Once again pushing the boundaries, the new collection features innovative pieces handmade over countless hours using simple tools and beautiful materials.
SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS…
Supernatural Beauty
Kicking off with a very special hard-to-come-by material: ancient rock crystal. This year, Timothy Oulton pioneers the use of rock crystal in furniture and lighting, with the Inception coffee table and mirror, and the Elysium mirror. Millions of years old and almost supernatural in appearance, rock crystal has been revered by many ancient cultures for thousands of years and releases energy when squeezed – the piezoelectric effect. Sourced raw from the earth, the rock crystal is cut and polished using simple tools. For the Elysium tall mirror, each one is then applied individually by hand, with 41 days required to assemble a colossal 15,000 crystals.
Velvet Renaissance
Also new this year, Faded & Degraded ‘Persia in Decline’ velvet is featured for the first time on the Westminster Button sofa, bringing a contemporary rock and roll edge to the classic Chesterfield-inspired design.
Innovations in Marble
The 2018 Collection features many complex designs that are realised through thousands of hours of hand labour. The limited edition Hestia dining table dramatically anchors a room with its laser-cut black marble top filled with golden veins of liquid brass. For casually sophisticated interiors, new table designs in white marble usher a sense of calm, including the Junction Marble dining table and console. Craftsmen painstakingly cut the marble thinly enough to ensure the pieces are lightweight and functional, whilst retaining a powerful feeling of solidity.
Vintage Timber Takes an Exciting New Form
Genuine English reclaimed timber is given new life in the Vestige cabinetry collection, featuring timber offcuts laid by hand in an eye-catching geometric pattern. The wood is salvaged from buildings in the United Kingdom up to a century old, and de-nailed by hand in the Timothy Oulton workshop.
‘Rose Petal’ Leather
Sensations and experiences form the backbone of every Timothy Oulton design, it’s not just how something looks but also how it feels that is so important. New Tomahawk leather is supremely soft and tactile against the skin, taking its cue from the velvety softness of rose petals. Tomahawk features on the new Lux sectional sofa and Rally chair.
A Word from Tim…
“The cornerstone of this collection is the materials – some of which are incredibly difficult to collect, and even more difficult to work with. It takes an enormous amount of skill and effort to cut marble thin enough to use in cabinetry or to use rock crystal to make furniture and lighting. But I’m not interested in anything that’s easy. The unique materials and the complexity in the hand finishing are what makes this collection so special.” Tim Oulton
